No Conviction For Client Charged With Possession Of An Illicit Drug

On a night out, our client was headed into Star Casino. Upon entering the casino, our client noticed Police and drug detection dogs which caused him to turn around and leave. The police observed this behaviour, approached our client and explained their suspicions. Our client was then escorted to a private area and searched by Police who found a vial in his pocket containing an illicit drug.

Our client was charged with the Possession of Prohibited Drugs under Section 10(1) of the Drug Misuse and Trafficking Act 1985.

The maximum penalty for this offence is 2 years imprisonment and a fine of $2200.

Our client wisely contacted Oxford Lawyers and reserved the services of Principal Solicitor and Accredited Criminal Law Specialist Mr Zemarai Khatiz. At Downing Centre Local Court, Mr Khatiz made strong submissions pertaining to the willingness of our client to better himself following the offence.

The magistrate accepted these submissions and issued our client with a conditional release order, avoiding conviction.

Our client was delighted with the determination and professionalism exhibited by the team at Oxford Lawyers.  As a result of Zemarai Khatiz’s efforts, our client avoided jail time and returned to his home as a much improved individual.
