Police observed our client driving a vehicle, the vehicle was observed to go onto the roadway and drive before making another U-turn and stopping when two men entered the rear of the vehicle.
After a short period of time, the two men then exited the vehicle.
Police followed the two men and interacted with them and seized multiple clear resealable bags of cocaine. the two men stated they purchased the product from the people within the vehicle they entered.
Later on, police approached our client and seized his mobile phone which showed correspondence indicative of a drug supply taking place.
Police searched our client and found three separate large sums of money.
Police arrested and charged our client with the following:
- Deal with property proceeds of crime under Section 193c(2) of the Crimes Act 1900.The maximum penalty for this offence is 3 years imprisonment or 2 years imprisonment with a fine of $5500.
- Supply prohibited drug under Section 25(1) of the Drug Misuse and Trafficking Act 1985.The maximum penalty for this offence is 15 years imprisonment and a fine of $220000.
Our client understood the gravity of the situation and knew which lawyers he can depend on. Our client contacted Oxford Lawyers and retained Principal Solicitor and Accredited Criminal Law Specialist Mr Zemarai Khatiz.
Mr Khatiz thoroughly prepared for our clients matter and appeared at Downing Centre Local Court. Mr Khatiz made strong submissions in our clients favour and argued that a good behaviour bond is a reasonable sentence when considering the circumstances of the offence. With such a strong case presented, the Magistrate agreed with Mr Khatiz’s submissions and imposed a good behaviour bond in the form of a Community Corrections Order.
Our client was very pleased with this result, as he avoided jail and could continue to live his life and support his family. Our client thanked Mr Khatiz for his effort in making this unexpected result possible.
